Healthy Dog Treats

Healthy Dog Treats

People who know me know that I’m a dog lover. I do not have dogs now because I work full-time and use public transports and leaving a dog at home from 8 am to 7 pm is not a good life for a dog, even if I could take him to work once in a while or find someone to walk him few hours a day. Some people do that and that’s perfectly fine but I simply do not want a dog in these conditions.

I am lucky to live in the Netherlands and I’m often positively amazed about how dogs are treated here. Of course, not everything is perfect but for example, you can travel with your dog in the train (if it’s a small dog who can fit in a bag, it’s free, otherwise you have to pay a fee of few euros for the day), many restaurants accept dogs even if they are not assistance dogs. Go to a beach with your dog where there are restaurants and you’ll be surprised how many dogs are in there.

If you are the happy owner of a dog or, like me, do some dog-sitting once in a while, this recipe is for you and your dog (yes both of you can eat them actually).

For the peanut butter, please check the ingredients and use one that contains only peanuts and maybe a bit of salt but no oils or any other additives. I used a 4-nuts mix with almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts and cashews I find at the organic store (Ekoplaza for people who live in the Netherlands).

About the coconut flour, it is very healthy and full of protein but if you cannot find it, you can replace it by any other flour but you’ll need to adapt the quantity as coconut flour is very absorbant.

Ingredients :

  • 75 g of peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 65 g of coconut flour

Preheat the oven at 180˚C.

Put all the ingredients in a big bowl. Mix it first with a wooden spoon and finish with the end if needed. If it is too sticky, add a bit of coconut flour.

Take a small spoon of dough, roll it in a ball with your hands and flatten it. You can use a cookie cutter as I did but you can also simply leave it like this.

On a baking tray covered with baking paper, place the cookies and bake them for about 15 min depending on your oven.

Leave them cool down at room temperature.

Bon appétit !
